The small intestine is 23 feet long. Can you imagine this? Inside of your stomach right now, all squished together, is a very long tube that helps you absorb nutrients from your food, balance your immune system, regulate your mood, breakdown hormones and likely, many other processes we have yet to uncover.
This long digestive tube should have relatively less numbers and variety of bacteria than the distal large intestine. Studies have shown that anywhere from 40 – 85% of people diagnosed with IBS, will test positive for SIBO via breath testing (available at Healing House with one of our Naturopaths).
