Naturopathic Birth Doula

Having a Doula attend your labour is one of the greatest decisions you can make! I have attended over 40 labours, at home, in hospital and always in conjunction with midwifery or ObGyn care. Each labour is as different as each woman.

The reason I love attending births is because I get to support each woman as she navigates her labour. Whatever the birth preferences are, I am there to support them. Occasionally my role is a massage therapist, coach, food-bringer, bath-tub filler, or simply that calm, gentle voice in the room to remind you how amazing you are doing.

The benefits to welcoming a doula to our labour include:

* Reduces the incidence of c-sections

* May shorten the length of labor

* Reduces epidural and analgesic requests

* Increases breastfeeding initiation and continuation

* Increases mother’s satisfaction of birth experience

* Can reduce the incidence of postpartum mood disorders

* Increases new parents’ confidence in the care of their newborn

My mission is to do my best to support each woman and/or their partner in experiencing their most authentic birth.  Each woman faces birth differently, each body responds to birth differently and I hope to support women during this unknown experience however they need it.  Whether a woman’s birth is natural, fast and furious, slow and meandering, induced or medicated, I aim to allow the woman and/or partner to feel empowered, supported and respected in the authentic way they want to birth their baby.

Role of a Birth Doula

  • To provide emotional support, physical comfort measures, and an objective viewpoint, as well as helping you obtain the information you need to make informed decisions.

  • To become familiar with your expectations, hopes, and concerns about the birth of your baby.

  • To remain with you as a constant support throughout the labour and birth process.

  • To provide guidance to partners, allowing them to participate at their own comfort level.

  • To help you and your partner create an ideal atmosphere for your birth experience at home or in the hospital.

Training

Aside from on the job training, Dr. Jada completed the DONA International Doula Training course in 2006.  This is the standard Doula training for North America.

What is involved?

Two prenatal visits:  during these visits we discuss your preferences for labour, I get to know you and what your idea of an authentic birth might be.  I answer questions and suggest preventative measures to help support a healthy labour.

Labour support:  We connect in early labour and I do not leave your side until you and baby and/or partner are comfortable and settled.  This can range from as little as 5 hrs to 2 days.  Don’t worry – it’s very rare to have a 48 hr birth!

One postnatal visit:  I pop by to see how you are doing, discuss the labour and give any support needed to ensure healthy recovery.

Doula Package

$1150.00 (tax exempt).  Receipts are given and divided between Mother and baby.  Cost may be covered by health insurance.

If you are interested, please either call (613-688-9898) or email Dr. Jada to see if she has availability for your due date.  An initial ‘interview’ style of appointment is booked to ensure I am a good fit for you and that you feel comfortable with me.  This first appointment does not require a commitment on your part.
